Alcohol and Drugs at Minnetonka High School
Two candidates in the 2005 school board election, Mary Louise Bowe and Paul Borowski, made their concern a campaign issue, saying there's a terrible problem with drugs and alcohol at Minnetonka High School. Alarming, isn't it? But is it true?
There are students with alcohol and drug problems at
Minnetonka High School, and that's a terrible thing.
Shame on us, the adults in our community, if we haven't been paying close
attention to this, and shame on us if we fail to act to help kids who use, or
fail to help kids avoid using drugs and alcohol.
The 2004 Minnesota Student Survey is rich in data - most of it encouraging, some of it alarming - all of it useful. For instance, the survey shows both that students at MHS are very aware of alcohol and/or drug use by their peers and concerned about it, but an overwhelming majority of students said they feel safe at school. Our community can use its strengths to solve this problem - you can be part of the solution.
